Handling livestock during stressful situations can be extremely difficult for responders as well as the animal. Think in terms of safety first, safety for you, the animal and anyone else in the area. This training prepares you to immediately apply your knowledge to the field, with hands-on training from experienced instructors focused on the animal response using the latest handling techniques. Livestock should always be approached in a calm, quite way and handled appropriately. Livestock have a great ability to sense fear, therefore handlers should be confident in their actions and always be aware of their ability. This class will build confidence in handlers and provide the necessary skills to handle livestock.
In addition, you will learn front/rear assist and perform a downed animal rescue exercise.

This 16-hour course includes an 8-hour online training with an 8-hour practical animal decontamination exercise with live animals. Exercise includes small animals, livestock and human decontamination.
8-Hour online module will be emailed after registration and students will receive link.
When registering, select the date for the “Hands-On” Exercise. This course meets the requirements outlined in FEMA/OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120 for 8 hours of annual refresher training.
(Hazwoper) Initial and annual refresher training is required for: employees or volunteers participating in emergency response operations. (Animal Decontamination) Meets the requirement for FEMA participation of animal decontamination exercise.

16 Hour Livestock Decontamination Training
2 day courses require a minimum of 14 students
Livestock decontamination has become increasingly more important year after year as households continue to get more pets. The community often includes horses and other livestock as companion animals and have the expectation that their livestock will be properly cared for. Thousands of animals, every year, are affected by events that require proper decontamination to improve quality of life and increase an animals chance of remaining healthy. Decontamination from fire, floods and other bio-hazard events require training and education to properly decontaminate animals. This livestock decontamination class includes: Nuclear, Biologic, and Chemical (DECON) training and provides the tools and skills necessary to maintain an effective level of decontamination operational ability.
Understanding livestock behavior and safe handling are included in this 2 day training as well as a complete decontamination set up and training application. We provide all decontamination equipment including a 20 foot chute system that was designed specifically for livestock decontamination.
This training is only for livestock.
Cost: Determined by location, type and quantity of animals used.
Animal Decontamination Exercise is an 8-hour practical animal decontamination awareness and technical training. Participants will be trained using live animals from service, working and companion animals to livestock. All animals are properly handled and trained for this exercise. Safety of the animals and participants is priority.
Under FEMA resource typing, animal decontamination personal must participate in an animal decontamination exercise once every two years.
A large animal livestock system is provided for low stress handling.
A certificate of completion will be provided once students show knowledge and the ability to properly decontaminate an animal. This training meets the requirement for FEMA participation of animal decontamination exercise.
Pre-Requisite: 24-Hour Hazwoper or 40-hour Hazwoper with animal decontamination.
Agency Requirements: Location to conduct exercise for animal decontamination.
Cost: Determined by location, type and quantity of animals used.
